Canadian Risk Management Program (CRM)
The Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), the organization sponsoring this program, is the world's largest association of risk management professionals. The Manitoba chapter provides a local forum for the development of risk management practices, a network for buyers of commercial insurance, and a classroom setting for Canadian Risk Management courses through The University of Winnipeg Division of Continuing Education. Risk Management is one of the fastest growing and most exciting disciplines of management, coordinating the handling of accidental and business losses that can seriously affect an organization’s normal operation if not handled in an effective manner.
The CRM
The CRM designation is awarded to students who have successfully completed the three Core Courses in risk management. These three courses also comprise the risk management major of the Fellow-Chartered Insurance Professional. (FCIP/FIIC).
CORE COURSES
Risk Assessment
This course # 15518 focuses on the first two steps of the risk management decision making process: identifying and analyzing the loss exposures and developing alternative techniques for treating each exposure. Subjects treated include choosing the best risk management alternative and guidelines for selecting the most appropriate techniques for handling each exposure.
Risk Control (Prerequisite: Risk Assessment)
This course # 15576 concentrates on selecting appropriate risk control techniques, implementing the chosen techniques and monitoring the results for effective control and coordination of the organization’s total risk management effort.
Risk Financing (Prerequisite: Risk Assessment)
This course #15825 includes the selection, implementation and monitoring of risk financing techniques. Subjects include insurance as a risk financing technique; financing property; risk retention including use of captives; risk cost allocation; finite and integrated risk plans and capital market products for risk financing.
